8 HEALTH BENEFITS OF TURMERIC

Bumblezest drinks are the latest addition to our delicious range of healthy snacks and treats, and are available at most of our Studios. With the main ingredients being ginger, turmeric and collagen, these little drinks are packed full of nutritional goodness.

Turmeric is the latest 'super food' that health fanatics are obsessing over. The spice has been used for hundreds of years in India, both for flavouring and medicinal purposes. It is a relative of ginger and it’s actually the ingredient that gives curry its yellow colour. We’ve been told time and time again that if we consume it on a daily basis the effects will be undeniable.

It is known, however, that our bodies do not absorb turmeric very effectively and that to increase absorption, and therefore its effectiveness, it needs to be consumed with black pepper. Check the 5th ingredient listed on Bumblezest's Ginger, Turmeric and Collagen drink, it's black pepper!

So why is this ancient, brightly coloured spice so good for us, and what exactly does it do?

  • It's a strong anti-oxidant - Turmeric includes compounds called curcuminoids, the most valuable of which is curcumin. Curcumin is a very strong antioxidant. Antioxidants, another buzzword used often in the health industry, prohibit the oxidation of other molecules which can be harmful to the body and cause viruses. Feeling under the weather? Grab one of the Bumblezest shots after a gentle session at the barre.
  • Turmeric includes anti-inflammatory properties - Anti-inflammatory compounds are incredibly important for the body. They aid us in fighting off foreign invaders and help us to repair bodily damage. It is now believed that illnesses such as cancer, heart disease and Alzheimer’s are all related to chronic inflammation. Hence, research is in progress as to whether or not turmeric can help prevent such illnesses.
  • Fighting depression - There’s currently ample research looking into the effects of turmeric on those suffering with depression. There’s a strong belief that curcumin impacts the neurotransmitter function through the brain and can help with the effectiveness of anti-depressants.
  • It helps with premenstrual syndrome - It is thought to relieve the pain of premenstrual cramps; we’re in luck, ladies!
  • Eases joint pain - It’s looking promising that turmeric eases joint pain, stiffness and inflammation. Suffering from arthritis, this drink is for you!
  • Headaches - It's no surprise that turmeric, like it's relative, ginger, is used to cure headaches and migraines. Lucky that this Bumblezest drink includes both ingredients!
  • Improves skin - Acne occurs due to high levels of inflammation and lower levels of antioxidants. With turmeric's anti-inflammatory and anti-oxidant properties it can help with clearer skin.
  • It boosts metabolism - Turmeric is a 'warming' spice, it therefore warms the body and in turn can boost your metabolism (yay!).
